Services to Government

The Government Services Group (GSG) within the Department of Treasury & Finance was established as part of the Machinery of Government announcements late in 2006. It has been formed from five areas responsible for government service delivery that resided in three different departments: Procurement, VicFleet and Accommodation (existing within DTF), the Office of the Chief Information Officer (formerly in Department of Premier and Cabinet), and the Chief Technology Office (formerly in the Department of Infrastructure).

What are our priorities?

We are currently working on a new operational model for the Group that has a strong organisational capability focus in the areas of whole-of-Victorian-government project and service delivery excellence and efficiency. This approach is designed to offer value for departments to help them achieve their business needs.

As part of this aim, the GSG has a significant role in helping to achieve the Efficient Government policy, which was endorsed by the Expenditure Review Committee (ERC) on 22 March 2007. This policy proposes savings that could be achieved through implementation of a number of efficiency measures in the following areas:
  • buying smarter, buying less;
  • shared services;
  • fleet management; and
  • integrated ICT.
The GSG has primary responsibility for these areas, and will be working with departments and agencies to identify efficiencies and innovations for service delivery that help achieve the Efficient Government savings outcomes, while ensuring existing service standards are maintained or improved.

What does this mean for you now?

We will keep you informed of our progress over the coming months as we finalise our business strategy for 2007-08 and complete our transition into the new model. In the interim, it is very much ‘business as usual’ as we continue to function along the lines of our current operational units. All existing contracts, services agreements and arrangements between departments and the work areas that form part of the GSG will remain in place.
