Regulation will continue to be a necessary and important tool in achieving the Government's policy objectives. However, ensuring that regulation is appropriate and that there is no unnecessary burden on businesses and not-for-profit organisations is a key priority.

Under the Reducing the Regulatory Burden initiative, the Government has committed to reduce the administrative burden of State regulation as at 1 July 2006 by 15 per cent over three years and 25 per cent over five years.

2008-09 Progress Report

Treasurer John Lenders has released the third progress report in the Reducing the Regulatory Burden initiative which continues Victoria’s national leadership in regulatory reform by announcing an expansion of the highly successful program.

Victoria has taken the bold step of adopting a new target of a $500 million reduction in regulatory burden by July 2012.
