The Victorian Government has made a commitment to a specific and ambitious target for cutting red tape. The Reducing the Regulatory Burden initiative affirms the Victorian Government’s on-going leadership in implementing the reforms which are essential to the competitiveness of the Australian economy.
Regulation will continue to be a necessary and important tool in achieving the Government's policy objectives. However, ensuring that regulation is appropriate and that there is no unnecessary burden on businesses and not-for-profit organisations is a key priority.
Under the Reducing the Regulatory Burden initiative, the Government has committed to reduce the administrative burden of State regulation as at 1 July 2006 by 15 per cent over three years and 25 per cent over five years. 2006-07 Progress Report
