Why I work at DTF
‘The graduate program gave me a great platform to establish a career in the public service. It taught me how government works, provided a wide breadth of government experience, and helped me establish a significant array of contacts and networks. DTF is an exciting, vibrant and dynamic workplace where you get the opportunity to input into a wide variety of key policy areas which are of substantial interest to government and the wider community. There are many opportunities at all levels to engage in high priority issues and provide advice that really does influence the Government's service delivery program.’
Ashley Smith, Senior Policy Analyst, Commercial Division
‘I work here because it's fun, it's interesting and it's meaningful. My job's about managing Victoria's resources well, and I care about that because it impacts on people's lives and their standards of living. I've worked in two other Victorian Government Departments and this is my second stint in DTF. I worked here earlier in my career, then moved to London for three years. When I came back home, I made a deliberate choice to join a different Department, so I could get experience working in a portfolio area. Eventually I decided to come back to DTF because of the interesting work and in order to get a greater insight across the whole of government. DTF's a good place to work: it's stimulating and challenging and people care about my development. I've gained valuable insights into Government Expenditure Review Committee and Budget processes that will help my marketability in a range of other roles. Plus I have incredible opportunities to interact with other Government Departments at a very senior level, and to get an insight into their decision making processes, which is helping develop my own leadership ability.’
Vicky Hudson, Assistant Director, Budget and Financial Management Division
‘DTF’s a good place to work. It enables you to make a contribution at the centre of government, and to utilise professional knowledge from economic or finance studies. There are a breadth of issues people in Treasury apply our minds to. All our core activities – commercial, budget or policy – are likely to have an impact on developments right across government. Sound economic and financial management across the Victorian public sector ensures efficient resourcing and high quality delivery of Victorian Government services to the community.’
Vin Martin, Director, Competition and Regulation Policy, Economic and Financial Policy Division
‘I love working in DTF. I love my job and the challenge I have every day from it. It's a unique role in that I get to work with our Senior Executive Group . I see the direction they want to take the Department, and being part of that is really empowering. I enjoy the culture of the group and team I work in. There's no hierarchical feeling - it doesn't matter what level you are at, everyone works hard and works together. Our team isn't just a group of people I work with, they're people I like to spend time with out of work as well. I've always worked in government - I like the fact that my work has a broad impact. When I was ready to leave my last job, DTF's reputation was an attraction. ’
Phuong Tram, Senior Manager, Strategy and Policy, Government Services Group
‘A fun, family friendly place to work, great people to work with and there are great opportunities to further your career.’
Rebecca Frana, Administrative Assistant, Financial Reform Division
