Careers FAQ

How long does the selection process take once I’ve submitted my application?
The length of the selection process can vary considerably from case to case, depending on things like the size of the applicant field and the work demands of the recruiting manager and panel. Typically, it may take around seven weeks from advertisement to appointment.

How can I check the status of my application?
Our role descriptions provide the details of a person you can ring with any questions about the role or the process. HR Services staff will auto-acknowledge receipt of your application and should also be able to advise what stage the process is at.

I’m having trouble uploading my resume for my application.
Most difficulties occur when resumes are in PDF format. It is best to prepare your resume as a Word document.

Do I have to address the Key Selection Criteria in my application?
It’s best to check the job ad for specific instructions. In many cases DTF asks for a cover letter and resume outlining your skills, knowledge and experience relating to the role, and applicants are not required to specifically address the Key Selection Criteria.

Does DTF offer work experience?
Yes. Enquiries about work experience placements can be directed to our HR Services team on 9651 1000.

Does DTF offer internships?
Yes, summer internships for Economics undergraduates are offered in our Economic and Financial Policy Division. Enquiries about internships can be directed to our HR Services team on 9651 1000.

What are the key dates to be aware of if I’m interested in a Graduate Program?
Online applications are typically accepted in March for the following year. Offers may be made from around June until the program starts the next February. Check the Graduate Scheme website for details.

I’m interested in being considered for temporary work at DTF. What should I do?
DTF arranges temporary administration and IT staff through staffing agencies selected through a Victorian Government tender process. For further information, contact these suppliers directly: Hays, Hudson, Dixon or CCS.

If I join DTF from another government body, will my existing leave and superannuation benefits carry over?
Benefits accrued in other Victorian Government departments are automatically carried over. In other circumstances it is best to check with our HR Services team on 9651 1000. Where reciprocal arrangements are in place, these benefits can be carried over.

If I work at DTF, can my superannuation benefits be paid to a fund of my choice?
Yes, as long as it’s a complying fund.

Do you accept unsolicited resumes?
DTF only accepts resumes for advertised positions. If you are interested in working at DTF, we recommend that you regularly check DTF Careers to see what positions are available. Employment opportunities with us are also regularly advertised in mainstream media such as Seek.com.au and The Age.
